Culling tips: getting through a big card fast

A few habits that make culling in imagic quick, whether it is 300 frames or 3,000.

Let Analyse do the first pass. Each photo gets a score and a keep or trash call with the reasoning (sharpness, exposure, faces, subject in focus). Start from that, not from frame one.

Use the keyboard in Detailed Culling View. Double-click a row for the full-size view, then:

  • K keeps
  • L trashes
  • J or H sends it back to review
  • Arrow keys move between photos

Collapse bursts with Find Duplicates. It groups near-identical frames and picks the sharpest, so you compare a handful instead of scrolling through twenty of the same moment.

Set a limit when you only need the best. On the Analyse screen, "Keep only the best" with a number keeps the top N. Since 1.4.0 it takes one frame per burst, so your best N are not all the same moment. "Apply to analysed photos" re-cuts without scoring again.

Nothing is ever deleted. Trashed only means left out of the edit and the export. Change your mind any time.
