Adobe took Assisted Culling in Lightroom Classic out of early access in June, and its official feedback thread has been busy since: https://community.adobe.com/questions-675/p-assisted-culling-feedback-thread-lrc-1627467
The themes that keep coming up there: crashes and memory growth while it analyses big catalogues (Adobe says Lightroom Classic 15.6 fixes the crash), focus sliders some people find too coarse, and subjects that are not people, like a bird that should be sharp instead of the branch next to it. Adobe's own FAQ in that thread says it is tuned for portraits, weddings, events and groups for now.
So, a few honest questions for anyone who has tried it, or any other AI cull:
- Do you trust the rejects enough to skip looking at them, or do you still review every frame?
- What would a culling tool have to show you before you would trust it? The reason behind each call, a score, side by side comparisons?
- Wildlife, sports and product shooters: what does "in focus" mean for your subject, and has any tool got it right?
For transparency, I build imagic, which also culls, so I have a stake in this. I'm asking because the answers decide what we work on next, and when imagic has the same weakness, the Community Fix Log on the blog says so.
