FAQ: "Windows protected your PC" when installing imagic

If Windows shows a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen when you run the imagic installer, this is why and what to do.

Why it happens

The installer is not code-signed yet, and Windows SmartScreen warns about unsigned installers it has not seen many times. The warning is about the missing signature, so it is fair to want to know what you are running: imagic comes from imagic.ink, and you can always ask here first.

What to do

  1. Click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.

If that does not work

  • Right-click the downloaded file, choose Properties, tick Unblock, and run it again.
  • "Error 5: Access is denied": right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
  • Your antivirus may have quarantined the file. Restore it or allow it, then run it again.
