FAQ: very large folders and memory use

People who shoot big events asked how imagic copes with thousands of photos in one folder. Here is the honest picture.

  • An earlier release cut memory use on big folders a lot.
  • It is not fully solved. The photo grid still keeps a thumbnail in memory for every photo, so very large folders use more memory than they should. Making the grid load only what is on screen is on the list.

If imagic slows down or runs out of memory on a big folder, post in Bugs and help with the number of photos, the file type, your RAM and your imagic version. Real numbers from real shoots are exactly what tells us where to start.
