What it does
The fix for faded or scanned prints and strong casts that Temperature, Tint, Blacks and Whites cannot reach: a print whose darkest pixel is a milky grey and whose cast differs between shadows and highlights. mode "color" sets each channel's own black and white point and snaps neutral midtones to grey (removes the cast); mode "contrast" uses one shared black and white point (restores range and depth, keeps the photo's colour: right for a warm sunset, coloured stage light or a toned black-and-white print); mode "off" removes it. strength 0..100 blends with the uncorrected photo. It is stored in the edit stack and runs before every slider, so apply_adjustments and mask_adjust keep working on top of the corrected photo. Set a crop first if the frame has a white border or scanner edge: the measurement uses the crop. The result reports the cast and black/white points it measured.

Asking for it
You do not call this by name. You say what you want, and the agent picks the tool:
Point imagic at my shoot and tell me what you find.

Where it runs
On your machine. imagic's MCP server is a local process that your AI client starts; the photos never leave your disk and nothing is uploaded. That is true of every tool in the reference, including this one.
To call it you need an MCP client connected to imagic. Setup takes about three minutes for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and ten others.
Give your AI the whole pipeline
apply_auto_color is one of 30 tools in imagic Max. The free 500-export trial includes all of them.
