Connecting ChatGPT or Claude to imagic: common snags

Remote control, on imagic's Home screen, lets ChatGPT (Plus, Pro or Business, on chatgpt.com) or Claude.ai drive imagic on your own computer: switch it on, add https://mcp.imagic.ink/mcp as a custom connector, and enter the 6-digit code imagic shows you. It is included with Max and during the free trial, off by default, and one click to disconnect. Your photos never leave your computer; the assistant only sees file names, camera settings, scores and imagic's own short descriptions.

Remote control is stuck on "Starting".

On some Windows PCs this happened because imagic runs without a console window, which broke part of the connector's logging setup, and showed as "Unable to configure formatter 'default'". It is fixed in version 1.4.1 and later: update imagic, then switch Remote control on again from Home.

My AI client says imagic is "not activated for headless use" even though I have a licence.

Some clients (Codex and similar tools) start imagic with a trimmed set of settings that could make activation look like it came from a different computer. Fixed in 1.4.1: update, then close and reopen the client so it starts the new version.

ChatGPT doesn't show an "Add" button under Plugins.

Look in Settings, not Plugins: Developer mode is a switch near the bottom of Settings > Security and login. Once it's on, the Plugins page shows the Add button. If that switch is not on your account yet, OpenAI is still rolling it out gradually; in the meantime a local connection (such as Codex) works today.

A connection from Claude Desktop hangs on first analysis.

That specific stall, and garbled messages during the first analysis, were both fixed in version 1.4.5. Update to 1.4.5 or later if you still see it.
