Steps
1. Open Settings, AI Culling tab
File > Settings, then the AI Culling tab.
2. Set Subject to Action and sports
This switches off face detection entirely for scoring, so a bench or podium shot no longer wins just by having a visible face, and pose is used instead to judge each frame.
3. Run Analyse, then let it split and rank each burst
With pose grouping, a continuous-shooting burst through one play is split wherever the athlete's body position changes, and the keeper of each moment is the peak frame, chosen only among frames as sharp as the best one in that group, so a peak can never win by being soft.
Frequently asked questions
Why did the podium and bench shots outrank the action?
On the default People subject, a detected face counts for about 15% of the score, and an athlete mid-routine is usually turned away. Action and sports mode stops faces counting, so competition frames are judged on sharpness and the peak of the move instead.
Does this also remove duplicate frames from a long burst?
Yes, duplicate detection runs the same way regardless of the Subject setting and collapses near-identical frames from continuous shooting, which is usually where most of a game's frame count comes from.
I want to see this on my own burst before installing anything.
The free Best Shot Picker on imagic.ink runs the sharpness and burst-grouping part in your browser on your own files, RAW included, with nothing uploaded. The desktop app adds Action mode, eye and face checks, and works on whole memory cards.
