Culling

Cap culling to your best N photos (Keep only the best)

By default, imagic's AI keeps every photo that clears its quality bar, one per distinct moment, however many that turns out to be. The Analyse screen also offers a volume-based mode: tell it a number, and it ranks the whole shoot and marks exactly that many as Keep, with everything else going to Review, never Trash.

Steps

1. Open the Analyse screen

Import your shoot, then go to 2. Analyse before running analysis, or before re-cutting a shoot you already analysed.

2. Switch "How many photos should the AI keep?" to Keep only the best

Two options sit side by side: Best of every moment (the default, score-based only) and Keep only the best, with a number field next to it.

3. Set the number and run Analyse

Type how many you want, for example 30 or 80. The AI ranks every photo in the shoot and marks exactly that many Keep.

4. Change your mind without re-scoring

Click Apply to analysed photos to re-cut an already-analysed shoot to a new number instantly, no re-analysis needed, and your own keep or trash overrides are kept.

Frequently asked questions

Does this delete the photos that don't make the cut?

No. Everything outside your chosen number goes to Review, where you can look through it yourself. Trash is always your own call, never automatic.

Can I set this once in Settings instead of per shoot?

Best of every moment's quality bar is tunable in Settings → AI, but the keep-a-number choice itself is made on the Analyse screen for each shoot, since it depends on that particular shoot rather than being a standing preference.

I asked for 30 but the shoot only has 20 photos that qualify. What happens?

imagic marks every photo it has as Keep, up to your number; it never invents extra keepers from photos that do not exist.
