How imagic flags closed and half-closed eyes

Since version 1.4.5, imagic checks each eye of your main subject separately during Analyse, on every tier and on the free trial, and marks a frame down when an eye is closed or half-closed rather than guessing from the whole face. This is a short answer; the full guide below covers it in more depth.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I see the eyes verdict?

On Review & Cull, a tile with a measurable main subject shows a small Eyes bar: green for open, moving to orange then red as the worst eye closes. Open Detailed Culling View for the reason in words, such as "Left eye closed" or "Both eyes half-closed", and hover a row for the full per-eye breakdown.

How much does it cost a photo's score?

A half-closed eye takes off about a fifth of the score; a fully closed eye takes off about a third. That is usually enough to pull a frame out of Keep when a sharper, open-eyed frame exists nearby in the same burst.

A closed eye is the point of the photo, like a laugh. Can I override it?

Yes, your call always wins. Double-click the row for the full-size view and use K to keep, L to trash, or J/H to send it back to Review, and imagic learns from the frames you overrule.

Does it work on shoots I culled before 1.4.5?

Not automatically. imagic stores a photo's score once, at analysis time, so older shoots keep their old verdicts. Review shows a yellow banner telling you how many photos were scored by an earlier version when that's the case, with a way to re-score them.
