What is a RW2 file?
RW2 is Panasonic's RAW format, written by everything Lumix: Micro Four Thirds bodies (GH, G, GX lines), the full-frame S-series, and the enthusiast LX/FZ compacts. It is TIFF-derived and supported by every current RAW processor.
The Lumix base splits between hybrid shooters — GH-series video people who also deliver stills — and S-series full-frame photographers. Both produce large mixed shoots where the still keepers hide inside a lot of coverage.

How to open RW2 files free
imagic opens RW2 natively for both MFT and S-series files, scores and de-duplicates the shoot, and batch-processes locally through its RawTherapee engine — useful for hybrid shooters who need the stills half of a shoot delivered without living inside an editor.
darktable and RawTherapee read RW2 well; Panasonic points users to third-party processors rather than shipping a serious one of its own.
Converting RW2 files
No pressing reason to convert RW2; support is universal. Export JPEG for delivery or TIFF for grading handoff.

Frequently asked questions
How do I open RW2 files on Windows?
Any current RAW processor: imagic (free trial), darktable, or RawTherapee. Windows Photos can preview RW2 with the RAW extension installed, but previewing is not a workflow for shoots of any size.
Do Lumix S-series files differ from GH files?
Same .RW2 extension, but S-series full-frame files are 14-bit and substantially larger. Processing is identical; storage and culling volume are what change.
Can I batch-edit hundreds of RW2 files at once?
Yes — cull to keepers first, then apply one style across the selection and export in a single pass. That two-step order is the whole trick to fast Lumix turnaround.
