Since version 1.5.7, the imagic desktop app can run in German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, French or Spanish as well as English. Menus, buttons, the culling and editing screens and the messages the app shows you all switch together. This guide shows where the setting is, what "System default" does, and the few things that deliberately stay in English.
Step 1: Open Settings
Choose File > Settings (or press Ctrl+,). The language option lives on the Processing tab, at the top, labelled Language.
Step 2: Pick a language
The drop-down lists the first choice as System default, with the language it resolves to in brackets, then each language under its own name: English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands and Português (Brasil). Because each name is written in its own language, you can find yours even if the app is currently showing a language you do not read.
System default follows your computer: if your operating system is set to one of these languages, imagic uses it, and if not it falls back to English. That is what a fresh install does, so many people see their own language the first time they open 1.5.7 without changing anything. Pick a specific language instead if you want imagic in a different language from your computer.
Step 3: Save and restart imagic
Save the settings. imagic shows a short notice, written in the language you chose, saying it will use that language the next time it starts. Close imagic and open it again and the whole app comes up in the new language. The language is chosen once, before the windows are built, which is why a restart is needed; nothing is lost, and your library, edits and licence are exactly as you left them.
What stays in English
- The MCP server and the command line. When an AI agent drives imagic through MCP or the
imagiccommand, tool names and replies stay in English on purpose, because agents read them. The tool reference is English too. - Anything not yet translated. If a piece of text has no translation in your language, imagic shows the English text instead of leaving a blank, so the app always works.
- Your files. Language changes the interface only. Photos, edits, presets and exports are the same in every language.
The imagic website is translated into the same six languages, separately from the app. Other walkthroughs are in the imagic help centre, and the free trial gives you 500 exports with no card, culling and editing unlimited.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to reinstall imagic to change language?
No. Change it in File > Settings, Processing tab, then close and reopen imagic. It is one app in every language.
Is the language a separate purchase?
No. It arrives as a free update to the same app and works on every licence tier and on the trial.
Which languages are available?
English, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, French and Spanish.
My computer is in Swedish. What will imagic use?
English, because Swedish is not one of the supported languages. Pick one of the six in Settings if you prefer it.
