Lens pairings that actually make sense

The sensor and AF system are only half the equation. What you're carrying on the front of the camera decides whether you're still shooting steadily two hours into a shorebird session. I've rotated through three combinations enough to have opinions.

The 800mm PF is the one I reach for when I know a subject will stay distant, ospreys over a reservoir, for instance. It's genuinely handholdable for a Z8 body in a way an f/5.6 800mm from the DSLR era never was, but "handholdable" for three hours straight is still a different proposition than for twenty minutes.
